The Colusa County Office of Education in partnership with the Colusa County Fire Association Chiefs, The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), and the Meridian Fire Department introduce:

The Wildland Fire Academy training specifically designed for those seeking a seasonal firefighter job with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).

Completed applications will be accepted between August 9 and October 4. Orientation for the next academy will be on November 2, 2019 at 3pm.

Graduates of this Academy also meet the minimum wildland fire training requirements needed to apply for seasonal wildland fire control positions with most other fire agencies in California.

The Interagency Basic Wildland Firefighter Academy is conducted on Friday, Saturdays and Sundays for 13 weekends (219 hours). Students are also required to complete substantial self-study and homework assignments each week.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What certificates will I receive? 
-S-130, S-131, S-190, L-180, ICS 100, CPR/First Aid, Hazmat FRO & Decon, Confined space awareness, Firefighter Structural Safety and & Survival, CALFIRE Basic Firefighter.
2. When do I need to schedule my screening test?               
 -The coordinator will contact you with a time and date after all the applications have been received.    
3. What if I cannot get my physical before the application deadline? 
-Provide a doctor's note with the date of your physical.                        
4. Are all classes mandatory if I already have some of the certificates?
