Alternative Education and Prevention Services Programs

The Alternative Education programs in Support Services include programs for specific populations.   The Colusa County Community School  serves students who are referred by the court or expelled from the local school districts. Opportunity Classes are provided in three of the school districts as a short-term program to assist students to transition back into their regular school program.  Regional Occupational Programs (ROP) provide additional course options for adults.  The Adult Education program offers Adult Education classes throughout the county as well as at the Colusa County Jail.

The Prevention Services programs in Support Services include Foster Youth Services which provides educational placement services to foster youth and adolescent wards of the court.  Data passports are completed for students transitioning between schools.  Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) focuses on the coordination of education, intervention and suppression of tobacco use in the county schools.  Homeless Education Program (McKinney Vento) provides services and educational support to children that are affected by homelessness.  Early Mental Health Initiative (EMHI) is a program that provides services to students in the primary grades who are experiencing difficulty adjusting to the academic setting.  Two programs are operating currently, the Primary Intervention Program (PIP), which has been sustained by local donations, and the Healthy Play Program which is fully funded by a grant received from the California Department of Mental Health.
